Allergy Treatment
Cockerell & McIntosh Pediatrics has developed a cost effective and comprehensice program to diagnose and treat the patient with allergies. We identify the environmental agents that cause the patient to have reactions. The best method of treatment for this is desensitization (allergy injections). The Rinkel Method determines an individual's level of allergic response to a broad spectrum of inhalants such as dust, mites, animals, molds and pollens. We utilize this in our testing, giving each patient an individualized treatment plan. We offer education for individual allergies, methods to control the allergies in your environment, and how to administer your own njections. Because our environment is very complex, there are many contributing factors that can cause allergic symptoms. We will work with you so you can achieve optimal results in controlling your allergies. Through this team approach, together we will develop your individualized allergy plan of care to meet your needs and reach your allergy goals. Our team is there is guide you through the allergy path helping you modify and change your plan as needed.
Asthma Care |
Asthma is a disease that causes the air passages in the lungs to become inflamed and swollen. No one is sure what causes asthma, but you can learn how to keep it under control.
Our asthma team can help you take care of your asthma. By taking the proper medication, avoiding triggers, and visiting your doctor regularly, you can live a healthy and productive life style.
We will provide you with the education and tools necessary to treat your asthma. These include a customized asthma action plan, access to asthma related equipment, pulmonary function testing and education. Your health care team can inform you of the proper way to exercise while keeping control of your asthma.
Ezcema
Atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema, is a disease that causes the skin to be very dry and itchy. The exact cause of eczema is not known, but most doctors think it is a type of allergy.
Our allergy department has the resources to provide you with the educational tools that will help to put you in control of your itchy skin. These include a demonstration of how to properly form a moisture barrier as well as a list of acceptable cleansers, moisturizers and detergents.
We will help you identify irritants and provide practical way to avoid these contacts. If other allergy symptoms are present, eczema will often improve with allergy testing and treatment.
Food Allergies
Our food testing is to determine if the patient has an allergic reaction to the foods tested. These tests function as a screening test only, and are used as a starting point for food elimination.
The following are the food tests now availble:
-
Intradermal Testing/Serial Titration:
This determines the dose or strength needed to neutralize the food allergy.
-
Skin Prick Testing:
This food test will determine if the patient has had an allergy to 24 specific foods.
-
RAST Testing:
This is a blood test that can determine if the patient has had any food allergy. Many foods are available to test. (Blood is sent out of the office for testing)
We offer sublingual drops, food elimination diets and food group education. You will be given a notebook with testing results as well as appropriate literature for your specific needs.
Sports & Asthma
Regular exercise helps to maintain a healthy body and lungs. Athletes may use the Refractory Period to their advantage, increasing their lung function for up to several hours. Dr. Cockerell and the asthma team will help you maximize your exercise and activity level while being properly treated.
Please call our office and ask to speak with an allergy/asthma nurse to schedule your child for any of these services.
