 Annette Beck, M.D.

While growing up, I thought I wanted to be a teacher. However, with my quiet personality, I couldn't imagine standing up in front of a classroom of students.  I knew I loved science, so I studied biology in college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Texas Christian University.  However, I still didn't know what I wanted to do with my life.  After working in a hospital lab for a year, I discovered that I wanted to take care of patients, not just their blood samples.  From there, I went to the University of Kansas School of Medicine and then on to Indianapolis, where I completed my pediatric residency at Indiana University School of Medicine.  I was the first and only person in my family to enter the medical field.

Since joining Cockerell & McIntosh Pediatrics in 1999, I have worked to bring several new programs and services to our patients.  I am the office's medical director of Reach Out and Read (ROR), a national program that provides free books to children at their well visits from birth to age 5.  Healthy nutrition is also very important; therefore, I worked to ensure that our patients have access to the Healthy Lifestyles Program (HeLP) from Children's Mercy Family Health Partners and the Chop, Chop magazine, a cooking magazine for kids.

I am also very active in the community. I served on the Board of Directors of Sunshine Center School, am an active member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, and served as chairperson of the Pediatric Department at Centerpoint Medical Center in 2010 and 2011.  My husband, Scott, and I support several local charities - including CAPA, Community Services League, Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association, and Alex's Lemonade Stand.

My two sons keep me busy going to soccer, baseball, and basketball games as well as studying spelling words and practicing piano.  Our family loves to go camping and ride bikes. In addition, we love to watch Royals, Chiefs, and Mavericks games.  If I ever have free time, you might find me reading, decorating cakes or scrapbooking.

While at the office, I have been called "Dr. Dora" (because of my hair I guess), "Dr. Cookie" (you'll see why at the office), and "Dr. Suess" (because I give out books for ROR).  Most of the time, however, I'm known as "Dr. Beck," the one who loves to see children smile, hear them laugh, and watch them grow.  Because I truly care about your child's health, I will work hard to listen carefully to you, treat you with respect, and take your concerns seriously.  Call to schedule your child's appointment now to see what our practice has to offer.
